This is a quick and painless procedure with fast results. While you may feel a slight tingling or pinch (similar to the snap of a rubber band) from the IPL hand piece, most people tolerate the procedure very well. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, and you may choose to have a topical anaesthetic applied to increase comfort during the procedure. Patients with thicker and darker pigment may feel the tingling sensation more. IPL can be done on Fitzpatrick skin type I-IV, loosely translating into Caucasian, olive skin, and fairer Asian population. That being said, in the hands of experts, it can be used on skin of colour by adjusting the parameters accordingly. IPL works by acting on pigment, so in very dark skin, or tanned skin (fake or real), IPL cannot be used.
