This treatment usually takes a small amount of time and delivers instant results. Most fillers contain additional Lidocaine to make the procedure more comfortable, eliminating the need to additionally numb the area. However, topical numbing creams may be used in more sensitive areas such as lips. Results are seen right away and last months to years depending on the type of filler and the location. Even though fillers give nearly instant results, they take a few weeks to absorb all the moisture and fully settle, with any deep tissue swelling getting resolved as the filler gets completely assimilated. Lip fillers can sometimes lead to swollen lips which settle in 2-3 days. It is normal to have a few odd lumps or bumps which settle down as the swelling subsides. It is advised to wait 4-6 weeks before adding more filler to the treated area. This is a procedure with minimal downtime and side effects, if any, are mostly temporary. These may include swelling, bruising and mild soreness. As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks, including vascular occlusion and infection.
Inform your doctor if you are on blood thinners, taking antioxidant supplements or green tea, as these may increase chances of bruising. Avoid alcohol 24 hours before procedure, and prophylaxis may be required to prevent cold sores in those who are predisposed. Please inform the doctor if you have permanent fillers in place.
You may experience soreness for a day or two post-filler. Do not massage the treated area. You may apply cold compress if needed. Avoid heat (steam, sauna, heavy exercise) for 48 hours, avoid pressure on treated areas (i.e. sleep on the back if possible for a few days). Do not use actives or makeup for 24 hours, and avoid facial treatments for 2 weeks after treatment. Please check with your physician before undergoing other facial treatments during this time.
